PASS Board Chair Val Webber Publishes New Research on Payment Processor's Impact on Content Moderation

PASS Board Chair Val Webber has published a research article in the Sage Journal, Sexualities, co-authored with platform scholar and European Sex Workers Alliance consultant, Rébecca Franco. The article, titled ‘The definitional creep: Payment processing and the moral ordering of sexual content,’ focuses on the impact that credit card networks and payment processors have on content moderation, how they shape what type of content can be monetized on adult platforms, and how this can lead to censorship in the guise of maintaining “safety.” Their research included fieldwork, interviews with industry stakeholders, and surveys of adult content creators.
